The other day I was walking through the mall trying to sneak in some non-detrimental exercise while I am still in physical therapy, when I happened upon a scene that had a great impact on me. A mother and daughter were sitting alone having lunch. The daughter, who looked to be in her late twenties or early thirties, was in wheel chair and had to be spoon fed. She appeared to have several physical developmental disorders with limited to no movement in most of her body. Her mother seemed to struggle in feeding her, but never once lost her cool or that look of love in her eyes.
Having two kids of my own, I understand that love and devotion that we have as parents towards our children. I also understand, though, the difficulties faced in caring for others who are completely reliant on you for every aspect of their well-being. I thought of all the times she must feel overwhelmed by her situation, hopeless, exhausted. So as I passed by them on the way out to my car, I prayed for them. I prayed for the strength and patience she likely needs on a daily basis. I prayed that she be blessed and lifted up. Above all, I prayed that she never lost hope no matter how trying the situation may become.
The point I am trying to get across here is that you should never lose hope, no matter how difficult the situation you are facing is. You never know who may be praying for you or working behind the scenes to help make sure you don’t fail. Maybe a friend, maybe family, or maybe just some random passerby-er who knows that look in your eyes and can completely empathize. The truth is we all feel alone and helpless sometimes, overwhelmed by the sheer enormity of whatever situation we may be facing. But it is also true that no matter what the situation, someone else has gone through it and come out ok on the other side. If they can do it, so can you.
So just remember that there’s always someone out there who is willing to listen, willing to talk, or willing to pray for you…sometimes all you need to do is ask. Reach out to some of your family, friends or social media contacts…you never know who might be willing to listen and help. There’s online prayer request forms like this one at my church and #PrayerRequest on Twitter. And of course you could always ask me! The bottom line is that there are millions of people in the world, many of whom are incredibly caring and willing to lend a hand (or ear) if only you reach out. Never lose hope, there is always hope that tomorrow will be a brighter day.
