If you have been following along on my intermittent journey here you know that it has been a few years since I have been able to run. ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia make it difficult to do a lot, but that does not mean that I do not take every opportunity to enjoy my favorite season, fall. The smell of the crisp, recently fallen leaves…or even the wet leaves after late afternoon rain shower. The brisk air contrasted with the warm sun. The smell of everything apple pie and pumpkin spice. The feeling of a warm hoodie (some of my favorite hoodies here) against a cool night next to an outdoor fire. Is there anything better?

Yes…yes there is. Running in the fall is, hands down, one of the best feelings in the world. It is warm enough to allow you minimal layers, yet cool enough to go for miles and miles and still feel like you have more. Fall allows you to have an early start leading to watching a beautiful sunrise while so many others are fast asleep. A run that can be followed up with fresh apple pastries and hot apple cider. A run that fills your lungs with crisp, fresh air leaving you feeling like you can take on the world.

Sure, the other seasons have their perks. Running in the silence of a snowfall is something magical. Slopping through a muddy mountain path in the spring is an unforgettable experience. And summer…well, summer brings with it speed and a feeling of triumph.

Fall running is the best running, the best season, the best of all the world has to offer. Please go out and take it all in…I promise your life will never be the same.
