When You Are Seeking Answers

There are times in your life when you are seeking answers, and no matter how hard you look, no matter how many stones you overturn, they just continue to elude you. Recently I have been dealing with some undiagnosed health issues. What started as a week here and a week there has suddenly turned into a daily struggle of “How bad will I feel today?” I have seen multiple doctors, taken scores of blood tests, and I have yet to find an answer. Every time I think I have it figured out, science tells me otherwise and answers remain just outside my grasp.

So what can you do when you are feeling hopeless, not knowing what, if any, light there is at the end of the tunnel?

Lean on Others

The never ending search for answers can quite frankly be exhausting. It is important that you let go of any pride you have and ask others for support. Sometimes just having someone to unload on can be immensely helpful. Make sure, however, that they are trustworthy and that they know that you are not necessarily looking for feedback, just for someone to listen. If there is something you are struggling with getting done, ask a friend or neighbor for help. You will not be a burden…most people enjoy helping others. Asking others to pray for you can also go a long way in helping ease your load. Lastly, physically lean on others! I know it is tough in this socially distanced pandemic world, but a hug can go a long way.

Be Your Own Advocate

The truth is the person who can advocate for you best is yourself. You know how you are feeling, you know when something is not how it should be. Stick up for yourself and make yourself a priority…no one else is going to do it for you. If you are seeing a doctor and you have an inkling of a concern, insist that they follow up on it whether through additional tests or a referral. If they do not take you seriously, find a new doctor or professional. If friends or family try to dismiss your concerns, stand firm and let them know the importance of the matter to you. Do not let others deter you from finding the answers you need.

Never Give Up

As I said earlier, searching for answers can be exhausting. Dead end after dead end can leave you feeling defeated. Know, however, that at the end of the day the answer is out there, and it is up to you to find it. Continue seeking researching, continue speaking to experts, continue calling in favors and asking for support. Use all the tools and resources available to you. Never give up hope, because sometimes hope is all that gets us out of bed in the morning.

So if you are on a journey to find answers to whatever issue you may be dealing with, I wish you the best of luck. Leave a comment below…maybe someone who reads it will have the answer you are searching for.
